I eased the RV into place, backed in slowly onto the concrete pad. The sun was dipping low, casting long shadows from the palm trees framing my site. I stepped out and breathed in salty coastal air. My first evening at The Palms RV Park felt magical.
After setting up, I wandered over to the clubhouse, where a few early arrivals were gathering for a welcome potluck. I contributed my “Gulf Shrimp & Corn Chowder,” a recipe I’d tested for storms. (Sauté onion, garlic, bell pepper, add peeled shrimp, corn kernels, diced potatoes, broth, cream, season with thyme, cayenne, salt & pepper.)
Later, I walked slowly through the park under swaying palms, listening to the distant murmur of Gulf waves. It felt like a home away from home.
Over the next days, I’d explore Port Aransas, Rockport, and go fishing in Aransas Bay — but that first night under the palms remains one I’ll never forget.
